A little about me...
I have been teaching high school Spanish since 2001 in New Jersey. I am a lover of languages, but am only skilled in English & Spanish (I have dabbled in Arabic and Portuguese, but those need some work). My passion is getting my students to love learning Spanish & to continue their study of the the language after they leave my classroom. Little gives me more joy than hearing about my students continuing to study Spanish in college and beyond.
Another passion of mine is integrating technology whenever possible to facilitate language acquisition (and to make our lives easier). My teaching philosophy has changed from when I first began my career. My goal is my students acquiring language that they will actually be able to use. I use an eclectic mix of strategies, techniques and methods that are often technology infused. A cornerstone of my practice is teaching with comprehensible input and a huge focus on literacy and reading, at all levels. 'La profe alta' comes from my being the 'tall Spanish teacher' in my building - I am over 6 feet tall in shoes. I am also a happy wife & mom to an 11 year old daughter (who is learning Spanish and also speaks some Arabic) and a 6 year old son who attended a bilingual kindergarten program and an immersion preschool since he was 3. He is fluent in Spanish, reads in both Spanish & English, while also being able to speak some basic Arabic. He is currently in a public school and continues to learn Spanish in an immersion program on the weekends. |
