The start of school is fast approaching for me (I realize that many of you might already be back to school). I wrote about how I wanted to try out using a digital breakout game with my AP classes as a team-building/icebreaker type of experience at the start of the year, likely during one of the first days of class. So I created the "Atrapada" breakout that I shared on here. I decided to also create one for my 9th graders. Most have been taking Spanish weekly in elementary school and then as a regular class in 6th through 8th grade. The proficiency target for that group is Intermediate Low.
I wanted to have something light and fun to work through while they got to know their classmates (we have two middle schools that send students to my high school, plus some upperclassmen can end up in the class if they had transferred in from somewhere else). I love Gente de Zona & Marc Anthony, so I decided to make a breakout based on the song "La Gozadera" because it is so catchy and mentions the countries of Latin America. So, here is a link to the site to play the game. Let me know what you think. I hope you can use it with your classes!

Hi! I love the idea of Breakouts! Thank you so much for sharing. I'm trying it first before my kiddos... I'm confused & maybe you can give me a clue... the 3rd "lock": is the answer in the info you get when you click on the map? the lyrics? I'm not sure what to do with that information.

Thank you for sharing your Digital BreakOuts! I did both and they were fun and engaging. I attended my first AP Spanish Language and Culture training in Houston in August. I can see how these will fit nicely with them!

De nada. I am happy that other teachers can use them! Best of luck with AP. I found the training from College Board to be very helpful.

I love this breakout - thank you for sharing! I am trying to make one for my students to use. I am having trouble creating the form to submit answers. How do you make it so that the questions give you a hint when the answer is incorrect? Is there a tutorial somewhere? Thanks again!

Thank you for sharing your ideas. You are great! I got stuck on lock #3 of La Gozadera. I do not want the answer, just a tiny hint :-) Thanks,

So glad you like the blog! A tiny hint for the third lock would be to think about invisible ink. You can shoot me an email via the contact page if you would like a more detailed explanation. :)

Hola, Thanks for info and sharing. I'd like to use "Atrapada". Do I just share link to students and they figure it out? I'm gonna try to make one. :)

I just used both of your breakout activities in my classes today ( Spanish 3 - AP). My kids loved them! Thank you so much for sharing these activities! Now I will have to learn how to make them! I will be visiting your blog post to learn about creating this type of activity. If I come up with anything decent, I will return the favor and share it with you. ¡Muchísimas gracias!

I just stumbled upon this breakout and am having fun with it, but am feeling a little stupid because I'm totally stuck on Clue #1! (I got the rest!) Can you give me a tiny hint? :) I always discuss this song with my students, and would love to try this with them!

I know you posted this a few years ago but THANK YOU! I just wrapped up a music unit with my level 4 students and have 2 (all virtual) days before winter break to fill. So, this fits in perfectly! My goal was to create one related to Spanish/Latin music, but time got away from me. Can't wait to try it with them tomorrow!
